Continued from Part one
TOP PRIORITY – A GOOD SITE NAME.
This is unfortunately too late for most of us. If I was starting again I would buy the site www.computerrepairnowra.com.au. If you have the search terms in your domain and page name Google will up the ranking for those search terms.
Not all is lost however as Google will take into account the page name. For example: www.ctsnowra.com.au/computerrepair.htm is good.
Note, however that Google ranks Pages not sites, so you would also need to get the external links to point to this particular page. In fact, you can design your site with many different home pages that may appeal to different customers. You just need to adjust the key words and the external links on each of these pages.
For example I have many customers in the small town of Berry near where I
live. I have an alternative "front" page that will just pick up the
customers looking for
Berry Computers. Note that I recently created a new domain
for a customer and he appeared on the first page of a google search within 1 week in a business that has hundreds
of competitors.
NEXT PRIORITY PAGE HEADERS
The Title, Description and Keywords are the three important sections of the header region with regards to Search Engines. However, Google ignores the keywords.
From my site:
<title>Computer Repair Services and Sales - Computer
Troubleshooters - Nowra - Shoalhaven, NSW</title>
<meta name="description" content="Onsite Mobile Computer Repairs, Sales,
Virus and Adware removal - Nowra Computers“>
Note that the keywords are placed first. The business name is less important and is at the end. I would drop the business name entirely except for one fact. If the searched keywords are found in the title or description then Google will display these in the return results. The header is not just important for keywords but it is what your customer is going to see before they decide whether or not to click through to your site.

Search engines do not understand images even if
there is text in the image. This image would have been better done
as an image with text sitting above it. Images are valuable in
making your web page attractive to customers. Images have a
parameter called alt text which should be used to add text relevant
to the image. I have recently removed this image from the web page.

Google looks for Bold or header text (<H1>
style). The template does not use these at all. It is a simple
matter to change one of the template styles to use the <H1> or <B>
tags

Internal links. These are almost as important
as external links. They help google understand the structure of your
site and Google uses the text in the link to understand more about
the linked page. Never use “click here” in a hyper link use a
description of the linked page.

Text and more text. I have yet to meet a
computer technician that couldn’t talk for hours while underwater
and a mouth full of marbles. Your partner might get bored but your
website will benefit from it.

This is a list of locations within my
franchise. It is pretty common for people looking for a service to
start search in their immediate area and work outward
